Apple finally unveils third-generation AirPods with new design and spatial audio
It seemed like we had to wait an eternity , but we finally know what the next AirPods look like.
Apple unveiled its third-generation AirPods at its streaming event. Intended to replace the second-generation 2019 AirPods (and not the AirPods Pro ), the latest AirPods feature a new contoured design with much shorter bars than the 2019 model.
They seem to be slightly closer to the Pro in size and shape, with a few major differences: the earbuds have no noise cancellation. Pricing is now as follows:
The third generation AirPods are available for $199 and can be ordered starting today in the US and over 26 other countries and regions at apple.com/nl/store and in the Apple Store app. They will be in stores from Tuesday 26 October.
AirPods (2nd generation) are available at the new price of €149
AirPods Pro are now available with the MagSafe charging case for €279
These new AirPods have the following to offer:
support for Apple's spatial audio technology with Apple Music
a new low-distortion driver that should theoretically deliver better bass
the AirPods Pro's "Adaptive EQ" feature. Adaptive EQ is supposed to gradually adjust the sound quality to the shape of your ears, but you can also turn it off if that seems like too much effort.
Furthermore, the new AirPods are sweat and water resistant and have a longer battery life than before. Apple estimates that they can be charged for up to six hours and that the battery lasts for 30 hours if you include the included charging case. In addition, the case is compatible with MagSafe wireless charging, just like Pro's.
Nearly $200 may seem like a bit much for the third-generation AirPods without noise cancellation, but hefty prices have never stopped people from lining up (or lying down) for Apple products
