Here's how to customize your AirPods' touch controls

One of the best features of AirPods is that you can use them almost without a phone. Once I get my 'Pods in and start my music, I can just tap the physical earbud to skip to the next song, or take out an AirPod to pause.

But what if you go back to a previous song more often than fast forward? Or that you want to tap to pause instead of taking an earbud off completely? Luckily, you can customize such gestures on AirPods, and we've got a guide on exactly how to do that.

1. Connect your AirPods to your phone

Before you can do anything about your AirPods settings, you need to pair them with your phone. After that, open settings on your phone.

2. Click on Bluetooth

Click on Bluetooth, then the little "i" next to the button with your AirPods. This will take you to the settings of your AirPods.

3. Click on "left" or "right"

This allows you to choose what double clicking will do on the different AirPods.

4. Choose what you want on each side

The options you can choose from are activate Siri, play/pause, next song or previous song. You can also choose to completely disable the use of gestures.

NB With the AirPods Pro you can adjust ANC settings, and that's it.

5. Go back to AirPods settings

Below the Left and Right options, you'll also find a switch for Automatic Ear Detection, which detects when you take your AirPods off or on and can pause and play your sound. If you prefer to do this manually or choose to double-tap, disable this option.

And that's it! Once you've set the controls to your liking, exit the settings and you can use the AirPods again, now complete with the gestures you want to use.
